According to Daniel:
I was born November 20th, 1965 in Brownfield, Texas. I grew up in close knit, but difficult home because my biological father was never around, nor did he marry my mother, Yolanda. After my mother married it became apparent that her husband was not interested in being a father figure to me and my older brother, Joe. They had four children together and my step-father became abusive. He kicked me and my brother out of the house when I was 15 years old. The pressure to support myself and Joe caused me to drop out of school. My mother paid for me to go to mechanic’s school which I thrived at and enjoyed. I taught my brother everything I learned about and eventually we opened up our own mechanic shop, with later became the Abilene Mechanic Shop.
I have 4 children and 2 grandbabies. My mother is now 80 years of age (as of 2026) and has suffered a great deal since my incarceration. My sister, Tracy, is concerned and may have to put her into a home because she has become. Since my incarceration I have lost my sister Martha Cantu, and my step-father who died during COVID. My heart aches for my mother because of all she has endured during my absence.
Part of my recovery since being incarcerated is to reach out to all those who were hurt and have asked for their forgiveness for my mistakes; I am truly remorseful. When I say everyone, this is not just my family but the families of those that were impacted. I am humbled to say that they were forgiving. I did not understand all the pain I was causing; I was selfish and self-centered. I have learned a lot from my rehabilitation and feel I have transformed from the foolish youngster I once was.
I have always been close to God and was always took my children to Church long before my arrest. However, I have grown even closer to the Lord. I have received College credits for several of the programs. I have also maintained a job from the time I entered the BOP gates. I have earned my GED as well. I am a mentor to many who need some support spiritually and emotionally or moral support. Many know me here as a Man of God…A Child of God…I led the prayer circle before the pandemic; I am still helping those who want and need help. I see many in here that need actual drug rehabilitation, including many young people. I do my best to teach these men how to use their God given skills to focus on a legit means of how to open a business and make something better of their lives. I am planting seeds for the Lord. I have learned so much during my incarceration and pray every day I will be considered worthy of mercy. I have also seen a lot that has broken my heart and wish I could do more.
If given clemency by the President of the United States, I would forever value his mercy. .
