According to Laz:

I am a Cuban native.  Two decades ago my life was reduced to 8-digits and count time for 35 years.  Not a single minute of release will be taken until 2/6/2030.  If I’m lucky, maybe I’ll still be alive to be free but please do not pity me.  I accepted responsibility for my crime before my sentencing and served time with truth and understanding that justice must be served to victims and the legal system this country is founded upon. But with all due respect, it is a system that creates victims that need deliverance from “Justice.” When I came from Cuba, I spoke no English.  I taught myself to read and write but still had little understanding of the legal system.  I know I’m not politically correct from every aspect but I have learned a great deal and seen first hand the damage of unjust sentences.  Allow me to be honest when I say, If a person hasn’t transformed into a law abiding citizen with an immeasurable amount of gratitude for their freedom in 5-10 years of punishment, then they may never rehabilitate, consider them institutionalized.

As a former History teacher in Cuba education has always been a priority for me. I’m a model inmate, and I have taken every class, program, and therapy available to me in the Federal Bureau’s of Prisons.   I have taken any opportunity that I’ve been given to help me rehabilitate and restructure myself and my way of thinking for my re-entry into society.   I ask you to please give me a second chance at life, so I can live the rest of it with my family and loved ones.

How many years can the mind take of punishment before it breaks and the spirit follows suit? I have asked myself this questions for 2 decades as federal property.  With every ounce of humility and prayer I’m writing in hopes that someone, somewhere, someday will have compassion and reduce my sentence.

As I write this, I am literally coming to terms that ” HOPE” is ALL that is left.  I have been denied point reductions, and clemency twice, including CP14 Obama Clemency Project.  So, after the letters, appeals and pleading that have led to heartache. Now, I’m dwindled to only HOPE that President Trump will have mercy on me and my family.
